“Threads of Love: a high-school love story”

In the old corridors of a school in Dhaka, where friendships and dreams blossomed. A heartwarming tale of love surfaced between two souls meant to cross paths despite the chaos of high school reality. The story began on a chilly February morning in 2014. A few days after Valentine’s Day, when a sweet young guy, Farhaz, gazed over the girl in her ponytail. Little did he know about the fiery and bittersweet girl he was about to fall in love with.

Farhaz expressed his undying love for Saheba with a single rose in his hand. But his timidity overshadowed his desire to give the flower, and he let it wither in his hands. Farhaz threw away the fading rose, dejected, and resolved to wait for the right opportunity. Years later, fate intervened, reuniting Farhaz and Saheba at a foreign university. After their lives had changed over time, Farhaz finally expressed his love after previously struggling with it. In a charming turn of events, Saheba approved of his proposal.

After ten years of shared experiences, they embarked on a new chapter. They seal their commitment to the sacred bond of marriage. What began as a shy boy holding a wilted rose transformed into a love story marked by resilience, patience, and the sweet fragrance of a love that stood the test of time.

“The Bridal Shower: A Recycled Wardrobe”

In a charming and environmentally aware twist, the soon-to-be bride embraced the idea of “something old” in a novel way. She turned her bridal shower into a celebration of sustainability.

Unlike most brides, Saheba embraces her bridal shower attire with the concept of reducing, reusing, and recycling. She cleverly crafted her bridal attire using her treasured Sweet 16 collection items. The bride looked gorgeous in a chic black gown from a boutique, complementing it with a bespoke gold tiara.

“A Vibrant Affair: Farhaz’s Gaye Holud”

What is Gaye Holud?

For my bideshi (foreign) readers, “Gaye Holud” is a traditional pre-wedding ritual. It is practiced by Muslims and non-Muslims in many South Asian cultures, primarily in Bangladesh and India. During the ritual, the bride and groom’s relatives gather to apply turmeric paste on the bride and groom’s body. Turmeric is believed to have purifying and beautifying qualities, making it auspicious in many cultural and religious contexts.

A Homely Affair

Farhaz’s homely gaye holud featured vivid colors decorating the house, echoing the joyful celebration of a traditional Gaye Holud event. It was all wrapped up in the loving embrace of familial love and cultural heritage. The aroma of turmeric wafted through the air, a crucial part of this pre-wedding custom.

The bride sparkled with grace and tradition while looking stunning in an exquisite Ek Pechi saree. Her harmonious combination of red and yellow saree signified wealth and good fortune. Saheba adorned herself with natural floral jewelry. The groom mirrored her in a gorgeous Punjabi coat that mimicked the same color scheme. The colors red and yellow stood for the vibrancy of their relationship and the promise of a vibrant future.

As friends and family gathered, a kaleidoscope of joy and laughter came to life. They ceremoniously applied turmeric paste with care and affection, bestowing fertility and protection upon the newlyweds.

“Ethereal Elegance: Saheba’s Henna Night”

Saheba’s Mehendi night was an enchanting affair that radiated with the vibrancy of love and tradition. The magnificent lehenga crafted by the renowned designer Sahar Rahman was the focal point of the evening. The ensemble’s intricacy reflected Sahar’s artistic prowess and a profound understanding of Saheba’s style and personality.

The lehenga was a work of art with a tasteful fusion of traditional and modern designs. Rich gold and a combination of vermillion and tangerine tones blended to create a visual symphony that captivated everyone in sight. Saheba’s outfit received a sense of regality from the finely crafted details, such as the delicate beadwork and the painstakingly stitched motifs. And, of course, you couldn’t possibly miss out on the rhinestones that gave it extra bling to skirt.

“Henna by Shahariar’s Mehendi”

The beautiful henna artistry by Shahariar’s Mehendi added to the charm of Saheba’s Mehendi night. Elaborate patterns adorned Saheba’s hands, with each curve and line expressing an expression of love and devotion. Shahariar created delicate lotus and peacock motifs on her hands. Furthermore, it seamlessly blended with geometric patterns to create a captivating tapestry that embodied cultural significance and ageless beauty.

The flowery kaleeras that hung elegantly from Saheba’s wrists completed her look. The bride-to-be looked even more lovely with this floral jewelry, which stood for success and happiness. The kaleeras swung with Saheba’s movements, drawing everyone’s attention and forming a mesmerizing dance of tradition and flowers.

Let us now cut to the chase and come to the guests. While the bridesmaids created a kaleidoscope of colors, Saheba’s guests dressed in vivid green tones that echoed the color of the mehendi.

“Infamous Rong Khela: The Color Fight”

Rong Khela, aka the color fight, has become a joyful sight in the colorful tapestry of Bengali customs, firmly ingrained in the cultural legacy of Bikrampur and enthusiastically adopted by many Bengalis in Dhaka. This energetic event, frequently included in wedding festivities, adds more fun to the joyful mood. For Saheba and Farhaz’s Rong Khela, a twining moment happened as they were clad in pure cotton outfits adorned with the traditional block print. The bride was seen in floral jewelry with a touch of the customary “tip,” the groom simply looked adorable in his floral printed Panjabi.

“A classic Nikah: Farhaz & Saheba tied the knot”

There was a sense of excitement as the sun rose, bringing the much-anticipated wedding of Farhaz and Saheba. In a traditional Muslim wedding ceremony, the couple was about to embark on a lifelong journey, and the atmosphere was filled with excitement and delight.

The couple made vows in front of their families and friends, starting the customary Muslim wedding ceremony with an apparent feeling of reverence. Then Farhaz planted a soft kiss on Saheba’s forehead, seeming a little timid, just like the first time he held a rose to give her.

Saheba, a symbol of grace and elegance, wore a gorgeous crimson bridal lehenga from the well-known Bangladeshi store Prem’s collection. The finely embroidered garment displayed the artistry that reflected Bangladesh’s rich cultural legacy. Saheba looked like royalty by wearing jewels from the infamous Jarwa House, each piece enhancing the vivid red colors of her dress. Furthermore, how could we forget about her makeup by the renowned MUA Zahid Khan!

On the other hand, the handsome groom, Farhaz, selected an ivory sherwani and pagri from Prem’s collection. Saheba’s red clothing and the ivory suit looked great, making for a visually arresting and balanced mix. Farhaz’s attention to detail also extended to his footwear selection, as he wore Gucci Loafers that gave his traditional outfit a contemporary refinement.

The wedding venue transformed into a haven of beauty and cultural richness. The color palette of the guests’ attire reflected the joyous occasion, with light hues dominating the scene. Bridesmaids wore sarees that mirrored Saheba’s elegance, while women dressed in traditional sarees contributed a touch of grace. Conversely, the groomsmen wore formal suits and tuxedos, conveying a festive and formal vibe.
